For me, the story of Achilles and Patroclus isn't just a myth; it's the perfect example for my series, "History hates lovers." It feels intensely personal because I've always felt the weight of history trying to erase my own truths.
My work is about that tension. The stagnant paper isn't just a symbol; it’s my attempt to capture the crushing feeling of a history that wants to be fixed and final, like an exterior elevation of a memory. It’s the Art Nouveau grave door that society placed on their love story—and on so many queer stories—a beautiful facade designed to seal away the truth.
But the moving doors are what truly drive me. They represent the personal view, the interior elevation of the story that Miller gave us. It’s the movement of my hands working with the paper, reclaiming a truth that was denied. This project is my small act of queer justice, a way to show that even when history tries to hate lovers, we can always find a way to open the doors and let their love live.
